Hong Kong Volvo B9TL

The Volvo B9TL was introduced to Hong Kong in 2004, when Kowloon Motor Bus purhased a Volvo B9TL with a Volgren body to try as a demo unit (AVD1). At the begininng of 2005 Kowloon Motor Bus put two more of these vehicles in service, but with Wright and Transbus bodywork. The B9TL is the predecessor of the B10TL, some mechanical changes have been made. KMB's B9TL's (after AVD1) are either Wright or Transbus E500 bodied, the initial two units were one of each body. In 2005 and 2006, 63 more Wright Explorer bodied B9TL (AVBW) entered service; meanwhile from in 2006-2008, 85 more Transbus bodied B9TL (AVBE) entered service. In 2010, Kowloon Motor bus introduced the Volvo B9TL with the updated Wright Gemini 2 bodywork (AVBWU class), during 2010-2011 a total of 229 of these were delivered. Kowloon Motor Bus operates a total of 380 Volvo B9TL's (December 2011) and it is the only Hong Kong transit operator to run these buses. All of KMB's Volvo B9TL's are 12 metres in length, air conditioned and powered by Volvo D9 engines with ZF or Voith transmissions.
