Chicago Transit Authority Photos

Welcome to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) photo gallery. The CTA began operations in 1947 after acquiring the Chicago Rapid Transit Company and the Chicago Surface Lines. It has grown to become the 2nd largest transit operator in the United States. It operates about 2000 buses on 152 Routes (Jan. 2005), about 1200 rapid transit railcars on 7 routes (357 kilometres/222 miles) with 144 train stations and 12000 bus stops. CTA serves the city of Chicago and numerous surrounding suburbs. (Source:CTA)

Below is a limited sample of what the CTA currently operates, but by no means complete in covering the CTA throughout it's history.

N/A N/A CTA "L" A farily detailed map of the CTA "L" map. The "L" is the rail link in the Chicago area using many elevated railways and at grade as well. The cars are not quite light rail as they are more heavy duty and somewhat similar to what a subway system would run like. 12/30/2004
