2006 New Flyer D40LF 7963-7980

In 2006, Calgary Transit took delivery of 18 New Flyer D40LF's that had Winnipeg Transit specifications. These buses were built by New Flyer in anticipation of a Winnipeg order, but the order did not occur. Calgary Transit ended up getting these 18 buses. These buses have many differences that distinguish them from other Calgary Transit D40LF's. Starting on the exterior, these buses have a front license plate holder built onto them, bottom sliding passenger windows (instead of top tip in) and a different rear taillight layout. These buses do not have two upper rear brake lights and additionally they have less space between lights on the bottom. This is due to the fact that Winnipeg uses smaller rear lights that require less distance in between them. But larger lights for Calgary replaced these smaller lights, using the same position as smaller lights. These buses are flatback without a rear window just like Calgary's 2003, 2004 and 2005 orders. On the inside, the buses have gray shell seating (with steel back panels and blue seat fabric, gray lower walls, no inner wall heating, a rear mounted heater/cooler with the vent painted white, touch stripe rear doors and an older version of the dashboard layout. These buses are powered by Cummins ISL engines with Allison B400R5 transmissions. They have Luminator Horizon LED destination signs as well. These buses were delivered with their hubometer on the driver side rear axle but moved to the door side rear axle like all other Calgary Transit buses, though they were moved to the door side shortly after delivery.
