1980-1981 SD/CT-U2-DC (C-Train)
2001-2027

Calgary Transit brought back electric transit to Calgary in 1981 with the opening of the C-Train system. The previous electric transit was the Canadian Car and Foundry Brill electric trolley buses; the system was shut down in 1975. In 1980 and 1981, Calgary Transit assembled it’s first 27 C-Train cars, the bodies for the cars were U2 bodies from the German manufacture Duwag, and electronic components from Siemens. These cars run on direct current (DC). The seats along with other interior parts have been changed throughout their lifetime. A few of these cars have received a refurbishment that includes new blue seat cushions, new exterior paint and new exterior door opening buttons. All but one car is in active service, 2010 was retired after suffering serious damage from a derailment in March 2002. These cars are expected to serve Calgary’s growing population and C-Train system for many more years to come.

2010 Approaching Centre Street Station. This LRV was heavily damaged on a March 27th, 2002 derailment where a truck crossed the path of the train and derailed the lead car 2010. 4 people were injured one seriously. 1/03/2002
