Brewster Foremost Ice Explorer Photos

Welcome to the Brewster Foremost Ice Explorer Gallery. Brewster operates 22 of these special coaches for their Columbia Icefield tourist attraction. These vehicles are used in conjunction with "Snow Shuttles" that take guests from the Icefield Interpetive Centre to the Ice Explorers'. The Ice Explorers' then take passengers onto the Atathabasca Glacier viewing area on the Columbia Icefield. These special coaches are built by Foremost Industries of Calgary. They were built in the 1980's (#'s528-540) and some in the early 1990's (#'s 541-549). The first batch are powered by a 250hp Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine with a very low geared Clark 34600 powershift transmission. The second batch is powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine. The vehicles use special low pressure Terra tires that can grip on ice and snow well while exterting less pressure on the surface of the ice and snow. The tire diameter of the vehicles is 1.68 metres. These buses have a maximium speed of 40km/h.
